Tribal Welfare Society is a very popular NGO In India, which is working for Development(General), Disadvantaged communities, Poverty, Rural Development, Tribal issues.

Our main areas of action are:-

1) Advocacy and peitioning government bodies on tribal rights and human rights in the tribal region.
2) Organising public hearing
3) Monitoring government and corporate activities in the Tribal Belt of India
4) Workshops and capacity building on tribal and Human Rights
5) Creating public opinion

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

Hardly any progress.  Matters have become worse.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

The government in the tribal states in India hand and glove with the corporations are making it impossible to champion the cause of Tribal rights. Large scale land grab and undemocratic methods are being used currently to quell the voices of the people. We fear that if this continues there may be no tribal heritage left in India very soon.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

We plan to democratically and peacefully struggle for the rights of the tribals to their land an their way of life.

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

Solidarity in the wake of corporation led globalisation is important
