DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION
INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND SECURITY

TOP PRIORITY: The organization's most important culture of peace activity

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

We have more than 3000 members that most of them are students in universities all over Iran, and we try to develop our network in Iraq (a country which has a great amount of injustice and violence which have religious roots).we have religious projects and plans in direction of helping each other and we think we can change present cultures to peace, with replacing these kinds of projects with the present ones. Also we have access to many poor families and their children all over Iran which most of them are living in areas with high violence (for example every child has a knife in his pocket.).Most of our projects are done with the aim of reduction this violence in poor areas. We make football teams from these children and have “Iranian House” in their regions to be a place for them to have education and care and support there and we suggested to our Iraqi friends to have the same projects in their cities.

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

First of all, it is important to define the peace from our point of view. We think peace and equality are closely related concepts. If we do not have war or conflict somewhere, but we have great gap between social decades, we should wait for conflict. So in our view, justice is mother of peace.
The actions are done by our organization in this way can be categorized as below:
As actions in sustainable social and economic development, especially equality in opportunities, for poor Families, we educate mothers, especially alone mothers who have their children, grown up and trained by themselves and nobody support them. (They have no insurance and governmental support.)We try to educate them to know they have rights and they should get it. We try to prevent talented poor children to give up education because of poverty and we have some special courses for some sectors in big cities in which there are much violence to educate culture of peace instead of violence for children, life skills and self management. We support also children suffering from malnutrition and hunger.
As an action in human rights field we have tried to stop execution of children under 18 and we succeed to free 3 children who were going to hanged up and we try to force judiciary to change the laws about this.
In the field of democratic participation we had” Iran 1130” project for tow recent terms of presidential elections in Iran and we trained representatives from the socially damaged groups to come and declare their requests and problems to future president together with other NGOS we invited to participate in plan.
In international peace and security field, We had declarations sending to “White House” and Us Congress to convict the september11 terroristic attacks. Also we had a silent demonstration in front of UN office in Iran in 2001 because of killing civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan and  intriduced 250 volunteers were ready to be there to make green belt for children. We had many ceremonies in Iran to celebrate other religions’ rituals to make a unity between human beings in humanitarian actions without regards to their religions and we have “Pray for Peace “ ceremonies with attendance of all religions’ followers. We plan to extend that in future.
We have participation to help flood damaged people in Pakistan and had managed festivals with participation of many people from different nationalities in Iran to make money for them.
also we had declarations every year for "World Peace Day" which some of them have been published and  in news medias.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

Yes. Our organization has changed many cultural elements in our society with rereading religious rituals again in our society in a modern way. Our organization found a ceremony in a religious day to save the life of under 18 children which in that day people do acts that the spiritual effect of that was worshipping the death, we change that rituals which were not usefull for society with saving lives. Also we invite the people who are going to Haj pilgrimage to pay attention to the symbols of the pilgrim especially Hajar who was an alone mother who wants to find water for his child, and support these mothers in our society after coming back of Haj.We invite people to gather food and staffs in the night our first Imam(Imam Ali (a)) and bring it to the poor people’s home as he did in his life.and this is now become a tradition in Iran society. we could have reduced the amount of violence between our under coverage families and make cultural changes inside them.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

yas.the most important item is the present culture in our country which the government support it and make laws to intensify it. We should be so patient to change it and prove that  Islam is not the religion of violence.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

BECASE MANY OF VIOLENCES THESE DAYS HAPPEN IN THE WORLD IN THE NAME OF RELIGIONS AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM, WE SHOULD IMPOWER THE FOCOUS OF PEOPLE ON COMMON MESSAGE OF ALL OF THEM TO SUPPORT THE POOR AND HUNGER PEOPLE AND ELIMINATE POVERTY FROM OUR PLANET .WE HAVE HAD IN IRAN MANY OF THIS PROGRAMS WHICH CHANGED WHAT PEOPLE DO BEFORE.AND WE CAN REPLACE IT IN ALL COUNTRIES,ESPECIALLY WHERE RELIGOUS RADICALISM IS A THREAT.

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

We should find the exact roots of wars, conflicts and none equalities,(for example they may be caused by social and economical injustice, religious differences ,ethnic differences, racism, sexual discrimination, political  conflicts between countries and so on)and we should let all the classes of the societies to know the reality behind these wars and conflicts and elites all over the world should do that, that is why we seek for educated and elite members(not just wealthy ones)
