ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

Sansristi was founded only in 2005 but its director Prof Asha Hans has been involved in peace activities as an academic for 30 years or more. She has participated in GPACC,
Prof Hans chairs as President (Orissa) The Pakistani-India’s People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy. Is co-editor of forth coming The Gender Imperative: Human Security
Most of the work of Sansristi is on Gender and Peace. Sansristi has been working with the Indian Institute of Peace Education Columbia University on the Community Initiave for Peace Education. Since 2009 it has been working on women’s dialogue in Kandhmal where Christians were targeted by Hindu fundamentalist forces. Sansristi has developed a training manual on gender and peace. IIt is working on displacement and religious based conflict and its impact on women and building their capacity to introduce peace dialogues.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

Overall very slow  progress but great impact on individuals

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

Yes. Most of the obstruction has been by right wing religious forces

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

Long Term: Keep working with women to create spaces of peace
Medium: Prepare Peace Education material
Short Term: Build capacity of women on peace dialogue

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??

Nations need to disarm; use SCR 1325 more fruitfully; include women and young people in creating spaces of peace.
