PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

The World Youth Alliance is a global coalition of young people committed to promoting the dignity of the person and building solidarity among youth from developed and developing nations. We train young people to work at the regional and international levels to impact policy and culture. Through this lived experience of the dignity of the person, young people are able to affirm life at all levels of society.

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

Training Programs
The certified online training program was developed to offer in-depth training to young leaders. The program requires an intensive commitment on behalf of the member. Training is a prerequisite for international internships and United Nations conference participation. Certified members build the Alliance by introducing and training other young people to the WYA foundational ideas.

The training covers four major sections:
1. Philosophy of the human person
2. International documents and institutions
3. Key issues at the international level (global health, development, Millennium Development Goals)
4. Movements and individuals who have shaped history.

DIGNITY PROJECTS

REGIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

CAMPAIGN FOR THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF YOUTH 2010-2011
Throughout the year, WYA Asia Pacific will regularly feature different young people in its campaign There is More to Me Than What You See! in celebration of the International Year of the Youth 2010-2011.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

More participation of young people.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

Lack of understanding about the intrinsic and inviolable dignity of the human person - especially in relation to human rights.

The lack of holistic approach in addressing the MDGs, especially related to women, poverty, education, etc. The "one size fits all" solution is not helping especially developing societies.

The lack of understanding about the human person - and that any development, to be sustainable, should include the development of the human person as a basic ground.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?

To be filled....

GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??
