ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

2009:

Hong Kong: Hundreds gathered at Cyberport Arcade for a day event which included a Gandhi Peace Concert featuring a spectrum of performers in different genres, Yoga for Peace, Paint for Peace, a Peace Day Ceremony, Peace Pole unveiling, One Minute Silence Observance, and flag parade. Many guest speakers were invited to attend including UNESCO, the India Consul General, and PIF Peace Ambassador and entertainer Michael Wong. Organized by Peace International Foundation.  At Victoria Peak, youth and their families held a Roots & Shoots Day of Peace, with decorated Peace doves, face painting and Peace walk, more (Photo: Tim Bowman). Catholic Mission School students were introduced to Peace Day, made a Dove of Peace, sang, prayed, made Pinwheels for Peace and shared Peace messages with kids in kindergarten. Peace & human rights Vigil event hosted by Asia Pacific Youth Network.

Shanghai: 250+ including students, parents & faculty attended Shanghai Community Int. School’s 5th annual event. Highlight was a Parade of Nations, representing 50 nations.

2007:

Cheung Chau Sacred Heart School in Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong, celebrated with peace activities including pinwheels for peace, peace songs, the formation of a giant peace symbol, visits to the kindergarten classes and sharing "peace in school".

Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Local peace initiatives held a photography competition called “Snapshot for Love & Peace” from August 1 – September 15 to encourage environmental protection through reusing and recycling. Digital cameras were distributed to youth unable to afford one.

A tree planting was held in Hong Kong with Earthwalker Paul Coleman and about thirty people from Bangladesh, China, Great Britain, Philippines, Japan, Canada and New Zealand. At the same time trees were also planted in Seoul, Korea and Hokkaido, Japan.

Women's League of Burma About 200 people in Mai Ja Yang gathered for a religious event.

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade?

On a global level, reported events for the International Day of Peace continue to grow year after year (see the website listed above):

In the 2005 Report, 155 Peace Day events in 47 countries are presented.

The 2007 records show that:
* We had 623 commitments across the world
* 70 countries
* 225 cities (outside of the USA)
* 42 US states
* An estimate of nearly 500,000 participants
* An average of 500 people per event

2009 annual report listed 700+ events
