The Commission works with many local organizations locally including churches, public schools, local colleges, neighborhoods.

ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

The Commission coordinates the annual community-wide Marting Luther King Celebrarion.
We send a letter to our members of Congress supporting Tibetan Independence from China, at the instigation of St. Olaf College students.
Prepared brochure on Hate Crimes to be distributed at National Night Out
The Northfield City Council designated the Commission as the “Complete Count Committee for the 2010 Census.” Working with the Northfield League of Women Voters, this is the focus of the Commission’s work, beginning in October 2009, and through 2010.
Participated in community “International Day of Peace.”
Mediated conflict at local manufactured home neighborhood conflict.

Each year the Commission has become more visible in the community and is looked to for support in various human rights efforts.

The Northfield Charter Commission has begun discussion that the Commission become the city’s Ethics Commission.
Fulfillment of our mission:
The City of Northfield Human Rights Commission (HRC) seeks to secure for all citizens equal opportunity in employment, housing, public accommodations, public services and educations. The commission works to ensure full citizen participation in this community by assisting the State Department of Human Rights in implementing the Minnesota Human Rights Act and by advising the City Council on long range programs to improve community relations in the City of Northfield.
Continued presence in community as resource for information and conflict resolution.
