ACTIONS: What activities have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the ten years of the Decade? If you already made a report in 2005, your information from 2005 will be included in the 2010 report.

We have held two scholarly conferences on the concept of a culture of peace and ways to assess the extent to which cultures of peace exist. These, and subsequent work, have resulted in a number of publications including:
A Special Issue of Peace and Conflict devoted to: Assessing Cultures of Peace for Peace and Conflict
An article for the Journal of Peace Research, (41,531-548) titled Assessing the basis for a culture of peace in contemporary societies. . An article on Assessing the Culture of Peace in Different Nations for the UN Chronicle, (2005, 42 (2), 53-55.)
An issue on Emotional climate, human security, and culture of peace for the Journal of Social Issues (vol 63, number 2).
An article for Building Cultures of Peace that Protect Human Rights published in Psyche and Logos.
A Handbook on building cultures of peace (published by Springer, 2009)
A chapter for the Handbook of Peace Education-- Teaching about culture of peace as an approach to peace education
And an entry for the Culture of Peace in the Encyclopedia of Peace Psychology

PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade? |
There is progress in the sense that more people have learned about the concept of a culture of peace, but it is still a relativly unknown idea. We need MUCH more work in building peacful a peacful culture.

OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?

Relatively few people are aware of the UN initiative.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?
|
We are planning to work with a new local peace group: the Center for Nonviolnet Solutions
|
GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??
|
If possible we should encourage the reinvolvement of UNESCO
