We recently conducted a seminar titled “Islam and non-violence” at Chennai, our headquarters. The details of which can be read from this link: http://www.hindu.com/2010/04/27/stories/2010042755270400.htm
PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade? |
In the eight months of our existence we do see a change in the attitude of Muslims of Chennai who have whole-heartedly supported our initiative of promoting moderate thought among them
OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?
A prominent leader of the Muslim community of Chennai opposed us openly during our seminar on Islam and non-violence charging A. Faizur Rahman, Secretary-General of the Forum, of tampering with Islam. Some believe that he was under the influence of some extremist organisations who wanted to discredit the Forum. But then the Forum enjoys the support of the majority of Muslims in Chennai. So we are confident that we will be able to bring a positive change in the Muslim attitude towards peace and non-violence.
