PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the second half of the Decade? |
Yes. The partners learned about the culture of peace through genpeace initiatives. However, most of organizations in the country do not know about the global initiative. Partners still need to be equipped with more skills and knowledge on the culture of peace.
OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?
The main obstacle in the culture of peace is the lack of knowledge of most partners. after campaigning for the culture of peace for a decade in the un system. Few of the campaign initiatives reach grassroots level youth organizations in the country. Support, resources and knowledge transfers are 0065tremely limited.
PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization in the short, medium and long term to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence?
Since the end of the decade of the culture of peace, the organization we work for moved away from the culture of peace as a main theme for youth actions. More stress had been given to localized peaceuilgding and human rights efforts.
GLOBAL MOVEMENT: How do you think the culture of peace and nonviolence could be strengthened and supported at the world level??
The main arena of culture of peace at the global level might be a good global initiative but gaps on how these translate to local and national youth peace projects remains to be seen. The region of asia remains as the weakest link in strengthening youth initiatives through the culture of peace declaration. governments have limited support for the culture of peace initiatives while non-government organizations are keen on the initiative few have included it in their thematic focus 0065cept in the realm of peace education. More improvements on these gaps are necessary.
