-Community Peace building
Creation of a formal stable structure for collectively identifying, analyzing and resolving problems by stakeholders. Through the facilitation of periodic forums between stakeholders in the host communities, Oil industry and security personnel. The aim is to strengthen the channels of communication and encourage joint problem solving.
Security and Peace Education Project (SEPEP) Security and Peace Education is a short but intensive training that adopts an interactive/participatory methodology to develop participants’ attitude for respect of human rights, sensitivity to local sensibilities, conflict sensitivity in the discharge of their duties, observance organization’s health and safety environment, (HSE) standards, awareness of the voluntary principles on security and human rights (VPSHR), best practices in security provisioning in volatile area and in general promotion of public safety and security. OBSTACLES: Has your organization faced any obstacles to implementing the culture of peace and nonviolence? If so, what were they?
|
Security forces do not see why they should be engaged in non-violence because they take law enforcement to mean "violent force"
Difficulty in sustaining peace and peace programs as a result of the paradox of security where national security makes nationals insecure, for example in post conflict communities in the Niger Delta contact between security forces and community members are characterized by anxiety.
