PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

During the first years on the Decade (2001-2003) in Russia in general and in women’s movement in particular there was a significant progress in promotion goals and ideas of the Decade. Due to the generous assistance of the Bureau of UNESCO in Moscow several conferences, symposiums and roundtables were organized, where WILPF Russian Section presented our reports about the contribution of Russian women to the Culture of Peace.

Unfortunately, during last two years the interest of officials and NGOs to the Decade have been lost.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

The main reason to this phenomenon is the lack of finances and appearance of new and more burning problems such as globalization, traffic and violence against women, necessity of prevention of armed conflicts.

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)?
