PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
The
progress is visible nowadays! Although we are a newly formed
organization in the Philippines, we almsot covered the archipelago by
spreading our project. Our understanding of culture of peace and
nonviolence and the way we allow it to affect us has a major role in
securing our daily lives and safeguarding our future, in addition to
giving us happiness and joy.
The need to understand the power
and influence of culture of peace becomes all the more important as
violence escalates not only everyday but in some places almost every
minute. Growing up in a far-flung community in one of the remote
arears in Mindanao. We can see the struglle of each constituents in our
area, figthing back the survival of day-to-day life. Undeniably, Peace
is the primordial concern and it is a veritable fact that peace is the
ultimate dream of every people. Peace is far to realize, but progress
is on going since the late 1970's, specifically the conflict of our
Muslim borthers in Mindanao. This coming April 2005, Peace talks will
resume on the part of the Moro Islamic Leberation Front (MILF), in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With the Government of the Repbulic of the
Philippines (GRP).
As Youth of Mindanao. we are hoping for the
best for peaceful talks this coming april. The other Peace Talk
Agreement is being discuss in the near futurre for the National
Democratic Front( NDF), Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), and
other parties... Through, the assitance coming from different NGO's
here and abroad and the United Nation Agencies, we are optomistic that
progressive place for a Better World in the future.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
We
are on a slow boat towards national greatness and the world passes us
by, not because an inhereent incapacity on our part, but by what may be
a failure to consolidate and translate into stronger institution based
on sound social capital and extensive social trust, or into a larger
sense of material community and culture.
*Political leaders term was over. The negotiations mostly and preferably are going back to square one again and again all over; * Disagreement at the concluding part by both parties after the Peace Talks Agreement: *
Aside from the two parties have come to so-called peace Agreement.
There are other partie/s sabotaging the talks for their own interest: *Mostly the demands by both parties was not concluded for the interest of the affected consitituents.

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
* A non-violent actions especially among children/youth since violence begets violence; * A representation, peaceful, non-violent but sucessful personalities in society who can serves as a role model; *
Opportunities to cultural races to take action effectively on behalf of
innocent victims such as children, mother, the ethnicity. etc.; *Use
the considerable skills of local constituents in gathering information
from various groups and in persuading opposing group to seek
non-violent methods to solve conflicts and differences. And it all
begins in the grassroots level.
The
first visit of Mrs. Annan to our headquarters early last year of
January in Delsin, Belgium. With her our Project Team Leader Frans

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
If given a chance, we will lobby to the Sen. Gen and the Gen. Assembly as an advice for; A
long term solution coming from the United Nations Agencies, such as a
sustainable development is the priority of the people. If this is met,
the conflict will be lessen and the people has the concentration to
focus on opportunities than going into war. If we see to it, its very simple! But a long process to be attain..
|
