PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
CARE
has been involved in Peace Education since its establishment in
the year 1989 . Many activities have been done / are being done with ,
by and for teachers , students and parents counciles. There is a
noticable change and shift in the thinking and behaviour of the three
target groups . Issues of respect , accepting the other , fostering
dialogue , all these have become a real noticable creteria of change
and influencing them . From time to time , CARE tries to introduce new indicators to measure success and challenges , such as :- * Building effiecent and concrete evaluation programs * Specifying the needs and objectives * Wide outreach and teachers/students numbers are increasing
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
The
main obsticale is the Israeli Occupation and the frequent daily
violations and humilliation deeds against the Palestininans in general
and the target groups in particular ( check points , incursions ,
closing schols , curfews...) all these make it very difficult for the
target groups to be motivated more and more . Other technical challenge is the lack of :- 1-
actual coordination on the ground either between International
concerned institution and local NGOs , or between the local NGOs
themselves. 2- litrature and resources that fit with the Palestinian culture and traditions .
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
Besides the ongoing training of trainers seminars , and workshops , CARE has done and still do the followings :- * Ongoing roundtables * intensifying and strenthenning networking * translating , publishing and distributing litrature * writing and publishing in the local newspapers about the decade and other local and International events .
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
We
call upon the General Secretary and the General assembly to help the
Palestinians in putting an end for the Israeli Occupation and its
ongoing violations , mainly the seperation wall that has so many
negative effects on all aspects of the Palestinian life . We also
request more coordination and to urge the UN working organizations to
be more open , and to widen its cooperation with all Palestinian NGOs
and not to keep themselves to just a small number where financial aid
goes to .
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
* The International Decade for Human Rights Education * The Middle East Children Association * The Norweigian People to People Program We do welcome any other International initiative for partnership.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
As
an outcome of our recent strategic planning workshop for CARE's staff ,
We are going to focus on more training , translating, publishing and
networking
