The limited pool of human resources and lack of funding.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

Promoting a culture of peace and non-violence is a continuous effort, which should be a main focus in education. It is vital to start with an education that subscribes to values that promote life long learning that fosters positive communication, creative problem solving and respect.

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

Over the last five years UWAS has strengthened its local ties with the Singapore Council of Women's Organizations (SCWO). Ties have been established with the Ministry of Community Development Youth and Sports and Singapore International Federation. At a regional level UWAS has established ties with government officials in Vietnam and Cambodia as well as with UNESCO representatives in Cambodia. Internationally the proceeds of the UWAS book support UNIFEM
