PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Progres
yes ofcourse since 2001 when (TYC) Tanzania Youth Coalition was formed,
but in the beginning it wasn't that much casue it was still growing and
whole of ideas and issue which are facing the world right now were
being discussed but not action has been taking place and atleast to say
the least we started with about five organization but now we have 70
organizations thus mainland and island.
We had some workshop
recently on sustainable development at Morogoro region and the year
2004 we had another one, but this is just in shorlty.
We have been adressing many issue on health/HIV,enviroment,peace, lobbying,awareness and advocacy

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

(1)financial
(2)capacity bulidings
(1)As
TYC we are doing our jobs on volunteering basis and sometimes to do
this kind of job there is a limit and also corage is needed, what I can
say is there is no fund we depend on donors whenever we had our own
project we have to wait for donors or sometimes the individuals .
I think these are the kind of problems we are facing interms of financial.
(2)capacity building
we
have been trying to work on our own but it hasn't been that much
successiful hence we need to be train for some issues i.e
peace,health/hiv and enviroment so that when we do have knowledge about
it then it will be easy for us to spread the knowledge into urban areas
or speacial in youth.

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

Free
flow of information and knowledge it is very important hence it gives
out challenge and ideas to the people who are concerning and people who
are not, for the TYC this has been very successifull because it has the
program that includes all the leading companies,govenrment,individuals
and youth to come together and sharing some infromation and have a
dialoge and this events happening every after three month.
There
is another program of sharing information which called school visiting
which members of TYC from the individuals to the one from the
organisation has to travel from country wide to discus with the
institute,primary to secondary schools.
As TYC also it has been
working with the sustainabilty for period now,as not many people are
aware of the effect of it, or if they now then they trend to ignore it
and this is very dangerous and this is why as TYC it has been putting
the first priority on sustainable development .
Recently we had workshop on sustainable development which was held in Morogoro (2005).
Equality
of women(as TYC)it has some organization which work with the issue of
women and thhus (TEGM)Tanzania girls movement as the memebrs of tyc
working with such issue it has been taken seriosly, we had some members
perticipated in the summit which was held in south Africa GEM(Girls
education movement which was held at 2001 in the making of TYC

give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the
General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the
second half of the Decade (2006-2010).
As
we/I have seen many tragedy happen around the world and Africa in most
and as from Africa point of view and TYC the advice which I think if
the secretary-General,General Assembly can work on these issue then I
don't think they will be any war,corruptions and ignorance
Religion
issues- most of the war attrocity I have seen or have been occurred in
this century are base on religions either muslim and christians or
other religion, so if the UN can able to sat down together with the
leading people who in the post of their religons and talk to them well
I don't think there will be many war for the near future.
Lack of
educations for the leders of today who are on the post as presidency or
their parties if the UN keep on giving money to these people and said
are tyring to help them then they are in the wrong side of the world.
If you put the structure that from the top to the bottom which knows
what they are doing and they have good education and knowledge and they
can spread to their people then we can forget to the word corruptions.
Other
issue that the UN can take look at it is that the interest of the big
country because as asmall country need some help to the big country
ofcourse they will agree on some terms and above all some interest
which later leading to the misunderstood,corrupitons and war so if
there is any realist way of stoping this kind of action I think it will
be useful.
