PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Despite
the fact that al-Ghanem Organization for Civil Society Development was
established less than one year ago, it has succeeded in developing
programmes related to its objectives, and presented them to sponsors
who have acted positively towards them (more information about these
programmes are available at our website www.ghanemorg.org)
The
main reason of achieving success and progress in our activities is that
the foundation’s members were mainly concerned with such humanitarian
missions.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
* Since the civil society’s activities are considered new, the reactions of individuals to them are skeptical and apprehensive.
*
The supporting organizations and agencies deal with us through
governmental bodies, which creates a world of difference between
organizations working in the same field.
* Lack of adequate capabilities.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
As
mentioned above, the Organization is less than 1 year of age.
Nevertheless, it has succeeded in developing seven programmes, some of
which are about to be implemented.
* Helping civil society to know its rights and duties as mentioned in the Yemeni constitution and other laws
* Social empowerment of Women
* Organizing workshops, seminars, forums, and training programmes to help people share in social development.
* Conducting scientific researches and studies on the development of the Yemeni civil society.
* Contribution to promoting education and developing its methods.
