PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
The
Centre is a new startup nonprofit organization, we started activities
in 2004 The organization seeks to prevent prejudice, promote peace,
tolerance, global leadership skills, through art, creativity, heritage
and cultural diversity among children and youth in Nigeria and the
world. We have not seen much progress towards a culture of peace and
nonviolence in our domain of action and constituency during the first
half of the decade 2001-2005 because the organization is new. We are
still passing through the usual teething problems of a start up.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
The following obstacles are standing in the way of progress for the realization of a culture of peace in Nigeria: *Lack of funding for start-ups and older organizations *Poor level of collaboration or networks among NGO's *Corruption and fraud *Poverty
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

recently confirmed ICAF's sole competition Partner in Nigeria with the
responsibility to organize ICAF's third Art Olympiad (2004-2008) as a
national program and prepare Nigerian children for the 2007 World Art
festival in USA. WE are designing an artistic showcase for the
celebration of the international day of peace for 2005.
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
The
General Assembly should promote and strengthen networks of
organizations and help build the capacity of this organization to
deliver in this field by providing fund for such networks. The general
assembly should provide more support to peace building among
youngsters.

PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
Below is a description of the program of my organization Program: Creative Peace Creative
Peace is a creative route to global peace and harmony through artistic
and cultural programs for children and youth. Creative peace is a
campaign for Peace, Tolerance, and Innovative Leadership through
Artistic Creativity and Cultural Programs for Children. The following
are the three main programs under this initiative. We hope to lunch
these programs before the end of 2005. We are still looking for Funding
agencies, corporate, foundations, and educational partners to
collaborate with us in the implementation of this program.
Peacemakers camp (Peace Begins With You) 'Peace
Begins With You' is the annual program of the Center for Childhood Art
and Creativity (CCAC). PBWY is designed to nurture exceptional creative
and innovative leadership and peace building abilities among children.
The theme is based on Katherine Scholes's book, which explains
different ways of solving conflicts and what it means to be a
peacemaker.
Windows to the world (WTW) WTW is an offshoot
of PBWY and NOP that will open participants to the world outside their
own environment. With this program, CCAC will serve as an intermediary
organization between Nigerian children and other organizations from
various parts of the world to involve them in international art and
cultural programs.
NETWORK OF PEACE/CHANGE MAKERS (NOP) Network
of Peace/Change makers will monitor and support the growth and
activities of the children through an innovative network. The Network
of Peace/Change makers will provide a five year after camp,
leadership-training program for the children as a follow up. NOP will
present them for International leadership programs and nominate them
for international awards for youths making changes in their
communities.
