PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

Yes we have seen progress in the attainment of a culture of peace  non-violennce conflict resolution in Nigeria. We have been following up our projects to ensure that the proper awareness is been created to the grassroot peaple through the capacity building workshops, seminars and training we've been organising.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

The basic obstacle that hinder progress is funding of good projects cause most of the time people expected to carry out this duties don't take intoconsideration the rural people where this conflicts usually arise from. Like going to hold a campaigh in the rural place some interpreters are needed to be able to relate well to the people and also translation of the materials to the local dialets. Another basic obstacle is traditional norm and values which in some cases will never acept that a female can take part in such activities as decision making and peacebuilding.

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

My Organisation has seen progress towards the attainment of a culture of peace and non violence in my domain. When the culture of peace was launched by the UN, my Oganisation held a one day seminar on the Role of youths in the sustainance of a culture of peace in Nigetria, it was held in collaboration with the United Nations information Centre Lagos and was attended by the commisioner of police, executive secretary of Nigerian university commission. In 2001 we also held a 3weeks leadership program for students in their final class in the High school which the president commended us for.In 2004 we had a 3 day training program for women on non violent conflict resolution in collaboration with the IFOR,WPP of the Netherland, the theme was Nigerian women Workshop on Intercommunual peaceful coexistence, peacebuilding and non-violent conflict Resolution and the participants where drawn from all over the country and where all women.and also this year feb., 2005 we also held another training on Gender mainstreaming in Decision making process and practices in Nigeria, Participants was a mixed group. which was attended by Govt parstals, civil society groups, preffessional and the media. In all this there has been favourable responses as the awareness is been taken to the grassroot people to imbibe in the culture of peace by the people we have been training. I believe that a culture of peace will be attained when the need for it is been impacted to the people and if more women are included into the process.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

Well, My advice is that Women has not been included in all peace talks before but if there will be equal participation of women in peace talks all over the world culture of peace will be attained cause women right from the family plays a great role in keeping peace.

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

The International fellowship of Reconcilliation,Women peacemakers program(IFOR)the Netherland,The UN Agencies in Nigeria. The fedral ministry of women  affairsand youth development. Devnet and so many others.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)?

Our new engagement is still strongly based on capacity building cause  we believe that knowledge in power, so many conflicts that lead to war are caused by illiteracy and misinformation, that is why we believe in creating awareness among the youths mainly and women.
