PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Supported
by a set of objectives and principles, Chouala has succeeded in
conducting many cultural, social and educational activities and
environmental projects targeting children, young people and the public.
Such activities and projects have been accomplished thanks to the
Association's human and organizational capabilities, good relations at
the national, Arab and international levels, capability of making use
of all potentials and by the efforts it has been exerting for 30 years
to address and advocate for the issues of childhood and youth.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
* Insufficient funding for some of the programmes * Instability of volunteers; which requires constant training of new members. * Lack of logistic capabilities; offices, administration and communications. *
Old and traditional culture of the elected municipal and institutional
bodies as to the enhancement of nongovernmental associations.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

Organizing cultural seminars and forums to tackle the issues of:
Maghrebi intellect; children; family; public culture; youth; women;
immigration; and the different fields of literature, such as poetry,
novels, popular Arabic poetry, drama, etc.
* Awareness-raising
activities in the areas of education, citizenship, human rights,
democracy, women’s issues, environment and social solidarity.

Educational activities; providing daily services for children and young
people and taking part in their everyday life in youth hostels,
educational institutions and summer camps, where 3000 children and
youths from poor areas are gathered annually during the summer holiday,
and accommodated in the camping centres affiliated to the Ministry of
Youth.
* Organizing regular gatherings for young people in autumn to exchange views on issues related to citizenship and youth.

networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
Chouala
is a national organization working for the benefit of all people
everywhere. It operates through a network of 70 branches distributed in
cities and villages all over the country and has good relations at both
the national and international levels; being a founder and member of:
the Federation of Moroccan Educational Organizations; the Moroccan
Federal Council for Children and Youth Unions; the Moroccan Social
Forum; the Moroccan Euro-Mediterranean Network for Nongovernmental
Organizations; the Arab NGO Network; the Euro-Mediterranean Network for
Human Rights; the Euro-Mediterranean Civil Forum; the Arab Maghreb
Children Association; the Arab National Forum; Medforum- The
Euro-Medjeunesse; the Arab National Youth Camp
