PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
The
city of Casatenovo joined “MAYORS FOR PEACE” in september 2003. We
haven’t seen any progress in the culture of peace and
non-violence yet, and at the moment we did not have the opportunity to
develop indicators.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
The
main obstacle to achieve our goals it has been the lack of an elective
administration, indeed the City it has been administrated until June
2004 by a Vice Prefectorial Attaché.
So the new elected
administration has found a pretty difficult situation, with a lot of
things to do, and few money to invest in the promotion of the culture
of peace.

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
The
most important action in the promotion of the culture of peace and
non-violence undertaken by the city of Casatenovo it has been the
institution of the Graziella Fumagalli and Madre Erminia Cazzaniga
Prize. This prize awards, every year, the best project in the field of
the promotion of the culture of peace and solidarity. With this award
we also want to commemorate and express gratitude to the citizen of
Casatenovo Mrs. Graziella Fumagalli who, with spirit of absolute
abnegation, sacrificed her own life for the suffering and less
fortunate, making us witnesses of peace.

give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
We are partner of “MAYOR FO PEACE” and of the “Lecco Committee for Peace and cooperation between Popoli”.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
We
realize that what we have done is not enough, but there is now a true
political willingness to invest time and resources in the promotion of
the culture of peace. There is finally a political administration,
thanks to this new situation it would be possible for the next years to
plan actions, create indicators and measure the goals achieved.

· Human rights
·
International Co-operation in order to promote solidarity, fight
against the problem of the hunger all over the world and against
underdevelopment.
