PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Yes : *
The types of activities have increased. Developmental ideas have become
more acceptable to civil community, which is reflected on the great
interest in the Association's new activities as well as on daily
attitudes in rural communities. * The reason behind this progress
may be the use of art as a gate to development, also the vivid
environment created by artistic workshops which aim at raising cultural
awareness of and communicating with community members.
Measures of success: * Rise in the phase outcome of workshops * High interest in the activities * Extension of activities to include other activities in parallel * Practice of artistic activities in everyday life (homes and cafes)

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Major obstacles encountered :
* Decline of the educational level * The economic condition of villages * The social make-up of fishermen communities * Social capacities of technical trainers
Measures of failure:
* Decline of phase outcome *
Low interest of community members and indifference to the progress
achieved by their kindred (children, sisters, brothers, etc) * Confinement to a group of trainees and failure to reach others. * Failure to promote the activities outside the workshop on the long run

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

Action areas : * Boosting poor and marginalized communities by using art as a means of development. * Holding artistic workshops for youth, women and children * Organizing meetings and artistic conferences nationally and internationally * Organizing artistic work camps nationally and internationally
Most important activities :
* Organizing a number of artistic workshops daily *
Organizing 3 international artistic work camps that gathered people of
different nationalities and created a healthy environment for change of
expertise between youths from different cultures. * Holding an
international artistic meeting to support young leaders inside the
fishermen's village in El-Max (a suburban region in Alexandria) where
18 artists have been invited from Africa, France, the Arab countries
and Egypt to stay and work inside the village, together with the youth,
women and children of the village.
