PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

Yes :

* Development of the Association's organizational capabilities by conducting a number of training programmes aiming at the organizational development of non-governmental institutions.
* Providing free training in business administration for the Association's members
* Increasing the export capabilities of 60 women in the governorates of Alexandria and Matrouh.
* Forging a partnership with a civil society in the city of Marsa Matrouh (Bedouin community) to promote its natural projects in international markets, by encouraging graduates to engage in freelance business and international marketing.
* Training of 15 members in Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh on international trade, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade, so as to guarantee sustainable services that would enhance the export capabilities of businesswomen in Alexandria, and support those who run small business.

Measures of success:  
                             
* Setting indicators for measuring the progress made to achieve the Association's goals.
* Becoming a model of success among non-governmental organizations.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

Major obstacles encountered :

* The primitive business practices of plant owners hinder their acceptance of international trade techniques.
* Conflict between economic and international laws and policies.
* The traditional attitude of depending on the government to get a job opportunity, which led to low interest in freelance business so as to avoid risks.
* Poor information of graduates in the field of international trade, which requires more effort on our part to develop their export capacities.

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

Action areas :

* Increasing the export capabilities of businesswomen
* Promotion of freelance business among female college graduates, and encouraging commerce school graduates to engage in international marketing services (preparation of export experts)
* Supporting small and medium industrial enterprises in non-financial services, which in entirety increase the competitive capacity of Egyptian products in world markets.
* Enhancing the Association's relations with Egyptian and international business communities through cooperation protocols and partnerships for project implementation.
* Adopting issues that enable the Association to influence decision makers, so as to benefit exporters as well as small and medium enterprises.

Most important activities developed :

* Depending on organizational capacities that helped us execute our projects to achieved the Association’s  goals
* Managing to obtain an international grant to train 60 members on export activities, some of them have already started their own business.
* Membership in various local, regional and international business organizations.
* Delegating many Association members to different parts of the world, in cooperation with foreign bodies.
* Establishing strong relations with government bodies concerned with export activities.
* Advocacy of the implementation of the Foreign Trade Ministry’s decisions, which resulted in more benefits for small business exporters.
* Developing strong relations with cultural centres in Alexandria, which allowed us to benefit from their activities.
