PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
There
has been progress in the sense that we have been able to develop
objective indicators and a template that can be used to assess the
culture of peace in different nations. The method, four dimensions
to a culture of peace, and implications for Peace Education, are
reported in Issue 2, 2005 of the UN Chronicle. The indicators are
reported in the Journal of Peace Research and can be accessed at
www.prio.no/jpr/datasets.asp (go to de Rivera vol. 41 2004)
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
The
failure of UNESCO to keep publicising the concept of a culture of
peace; the lack of general awareness in the public of the United
States; and the lack of indicators for the extent of peace education
