PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
There
are no types of indicators to measure the progress: the CWC programs
are popular and continue in the future in the same style and
regularity.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
a/ Lack of interest and/or information
b/ Lack of resources (basically of staff)
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
The
Colourful World Circle (CWC), a series of monthly club programs, has
organised 38 public presentations followed by discussions with the
guest speaker on a wide range of topics during the given period. The
topics ranged from presentations of new teaching or healing methods to
the appearance of new religions or minority groups in Hungary. The
guiding force and the spirit of the programs were that of tolerance,
openness for otherness and searching for further knowledge before the
individual draws a, sometimes stereotypical, conclusion.
The programs are visited by 20 to 50 people depending on the topic or other parallel program offers.
All
the programs of the CWC promote the culture of peace and non-violence
in a direct or indirect way. However, in March 2004, the CWC organised
and hosted a special event. It was a poster exhibition entitled
'Prejudice and Tolerance’'prepared and presented by Austrian youth. The
initiator of the project was a student of Austrian and Hungarian
background, who is a regular visitor of the CWC and has already
delivered two presentations. In this particular case, she prepared the
exhibition with her Austrian friends, members of the 'Federation of
International Volunteers for Human and Nature Rights on Earth' (FIVE).
The posters were on display in the main entrance hall of the County
Cultural and Youth Centre, Szombathely, Hungary, for over a week.
During the opening ceremony the DANCING WAVE Bahá'í Dance Group
(Wienerneustadt, Austria) performed a peace dance.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
The CWC operates as an individual and independent club
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
We would like to continue our programmes as long as possible increasing the size of our audience, if possible.
