PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
The
Private Eco High School has obtained the status of an affiliated UNESCO
school. It is also the training school for students of Charles
University – Faculty of Pedagogy. It develops its name as a prestigious
educational institution, oriented at ecology and humanities. Its
programme conception is derived from the notion of an interconnected
world, which is influenced by everybody; i.e., every school graduate
working in any field may influence it. Every year, the Private Eco High
School also develops an updated Plan of Ecological Education. The
School has received the “Order of Hurvínek Smile” (Hurvínek is a very
popular children’s marionette) for the help to Prague conkers, it has
also obtained the title ECOSCHOOL of 2003 and 2004, and it has received
the certificate of IES (International Education Society).
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
None reported.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
The
basic philosophy of our school is to form a modern lifestyle, based on
creative, friendly atmosphere between the school, students, parents and
the surrounding environment. We also stress the education towards a
harmonious relationship of an individual with the nature but also with
other people, by means of extending the students’ awareness of
responsibility to their own health, education and self-improvement. The
students’ participation in multiculturally-oriented activities,
connected with the interest in the form of direct support of conditions
that open new horizons of human knowledge, plays a crucial role in this
process.
The students of the Eco High School have the
possibility to show their individuality and creativity not only in the
educational process but also during the yearly after-school events (the
ball of the Eco High School, the activities connected with The Day of
the Earth, a Garden Party etc.).

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
The school is part of the Life-Link Friendship-Schools network. It is also a UNESCO affiliated school.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
By
its whole training and educational activity the School attempts to
teach students to think in context and also to realize their
responsibility for their health and for the surrounding environment. It
is clear that it is not possible to measure the improvement of
environment. Yet, if our students and graduates embrace the habits of a
healthy and tolerant lifestyle, then in their future lives they will
surely be able to influence significantly not only their families but
also the society around them
