PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

The inauguration of our newly created Chair on "Culture Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace" took place on May 10, 2005.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

We have not had any obstacles in the process of creating our Chair.

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

We have undertaken several activities as part of getting ready for the Chair, including two international conferences on peace and reconciliation, several lectures by faculty from various universities around the world, multicultural festivals, and music festivals.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?


PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?


PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)?

We plan to promote a number of activities in the fields of education and research, including the development of educational materials for peace and reconciliation, pre-service and in-service teacher development on peace and cultural diversity, research on reconciliation between communities that are in conflict, establishment of a Master’s in Education with emphasis on multicultural education, organization of conferences, and publication of books and reports.
