PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
During
the first decade the situation in Kyrgyzstan was peaceful and stable.
But, there were some peoples’ disappointments in southern part of
country against the government policy in March, 2002. Natural
disasters with human victims happened almost every year (2001-2005).
Peace fund of Kyrgyzstan carried out several activities among
population and achieved a progress on preserving culture of peace and
tolerance in the country. Our indicator to measure progress is absence
of conflicts on international, racial, interconfessial and social
factors.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Impossibility of carrying out of big and regular activities because of the lack of financing.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
Main actions: 1) organization of meetings, conferences, discussions, seminars in Bishkek and other cities of the country 2) publications in newspapers, speech over the radio and television. 3) to provide material help for those who suffered from material disaster, orphans, poor families, children in boarding schools. The
International Day of Peace on September 21 is held only in the form of
conferences and meetings with certain groups of society, for example
with students, military persons, schoolchildren.
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
My
advice: General Assembly and Secretary General are to pay great
attention to such new countries as Kyrgyzstan, which was one of the
states of former Soviet Union, with really good culture of peace,
nonviolence and tolerance. But nowadays it suffers from serious
difficulties in transferring to new forms of social and economical life
in the conditions of world globalization.
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
Partnership
in our work is being realized only in the framework of International
Association of Peace Funds in Moscow with the participation of the
Peace Funds Cooperation of Independent countries. Unfortunately
we do not have partners from countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, USA.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
Main
plan: expanding and widening our work on strengthening peace stability
in the country, propaganda of culture of peace and tolerance. It is
actual now for Kyrgyzstan, as after revolution on March 24-25, 2005,
the situation in country is not so stable as before.
