PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Caucasian
Center for Proposing Non Traditional Conflict Resolution Methods has
progress toward Peace culture in our domain of action. During the first
half Decade /2001-2005/ we have strength our efforts to the education
of peace. We enlarge our target group involving new generation,
journalists and the layers of society. Our indicators for measuring
this these efforts are analyzes of media articles, new generation
opinion polls etc.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
The
most important obstacles that have prevented progress are absence of
communication lines, fear for starting communication, stereotypes of
enemy.

ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
1.
Rejection of enemy stereotype and tolerance atmosphere building. This
goal will be achieved by the young generation education and journalist
articles reports broadcasting.
· "Friendly Caucasus-1",
"Friendly Caucasus-2" projects - this project aim is peace building by
the effort of regional journalists. As a result we have worked out
negotiation new model for public sector. · "Peace at home, peace in
the world-1", "Peace at home, peace in the world -2" - In the frame of
this project we plan to create web- forum, where students of Armenia
and Turkey can active interact with each other. Also we'll create peace
clubs in the region schools. · "We work for peace" seminar for young journalists of Armenia, · Participation of "Conflict Resolution" Training in New School University in New York,
2. Municipal level cooperation-, which suppose creation of forum and involve in it municipal leaders.
· "Provincial towns regional Forum " project - this is permanent structure with the participation of 15 municipal authorities. ·
"Municipal Cooperation project" - We plan also trainings for municipal
leaders on the topics of European Laws. Project supposes continuation-
to create e-network of regional cities. · Armenian - Turkish meeting
for development of Caucasian tourism, Prague, in 2002 September, funded
by Global Center for Peace American University of Washington

Business cooperation - Businessmen play important role in conflict
prevention and transformation. They are new actors in conflict
resolution sphere.
· Our organization has done research with "International Alert" Britain organization " From War economies to peace economies". · "Regional agricultural wholesale market" with the participation of Armenia, Georgia and Turkey.

The first phase of the project "Regional Center for Quick Response to
Extreme Situations" The project participated countries was Turkey,
Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The goal of the project was
establishment of virtual center, which will coordinate the work of the
rescue teams and the departments of quick response of the region in the
case of natural and artificial disasters, and organization of rescue
and emergency activity in the region / Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and
Armenia as well as Russia, Iran, out of this frontiers/ in the case of
emergency situations. CC is working out new model of management post disaster situations with Nante University /France/.
5. Cultural cooperation in the region

International Biennales 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004. Participants of
Biennales are artists of conflicting countries. 400 artists have
participated in 4 Biennales. · Participation in Ardvin Cultural Festival /Turkey/ in 2002 June, Funded by OSCE

ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
To
pay attention of finding alternative ways of conflict resolution.
For gaining this goal we advice to pay attention to education of
young generation, which will rise with the ideas of peace and cultural
cooperation. To involve society sector, which is very flexible.

PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
1. Meetings and discussions with journalists and NGO leaders. 2. Organization of festivals, forums of students and other young people for overcoming stereotypes and confidence building. 3. Creation of Caucasus University. 4. Creation of Caucasian network of extreme situations quick response. 5. To organize Internet forum for young people. 6. Creation of joint institutions in the frame of Provincial towns South Caucasian forum. 7. Creation of business directory of Caucasian Provincial towns. 8. Agricultural wholesale market /to organize fair of agricultural foods/. 9. Creation of Chamber of Trade and Industry / to organize fairs of wine, cognac, etc./ 10. Regional development Agency. 11. Creation of common Caucasian trademark. 12. Trainings, seminars for municipalities for peace formation and conflict resolution. 13. Formation of Trade houses.
