PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
As
time is passing out people are becoming more conscious about their
existence as human being in the society, what is their basic rights
are, what is the ultimate consequences of violence’s / conflict
between each other and what is the benefit of peaceful life. It
is a matter of satisfaction and hope that percentage of Crime and
violence is decreasing in my constituency Co’x Bazar District of
Bangladesh where social, communal, political and conflict between
migrant ( Myanmar ) and local people was the common scenario. According
to our assumption two root causes are working behind the changes (1)
Awareness building and social development activities by NGO’s and other
Voluntary organizations (2) Law enforcing authorities of National
Govt.(controversial). Anyway we observed a bit progress in the matter of social peace and nonviolence is concern.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Proper justice in proper times by the Local and National government (the good governance). Poverty and lack of basic education Social discrimination as far as Gender and Indigenous community is concern. Right of land Political influences of every ruling party in terms of social development and decision-making is concern
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
People
must feel free for participating in the development of the society
through their own will force and scope. But social barriers like
Prejudices against Women, Cast, Religion and social justice create
bottlenecks. Our initiatives toward promotion of peace and nonviolence: Education program for less privileged Child and adult. Program for Gender issues. Human rights activities on child and women trafficking and awareness building Microcredit program for the poor women in our constituency. Yearly seminar and cultural program on Peace issue with Hiroshima Peace Cultural Foundation Japan.
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
It is commonly recognized that where there is justice there is Peace closely linked peace is the output of Justice. In
order to promote peace and nonviolence culture especially in developing
countries is concern UN activities must be emphasized on poverty and
illiteracy eradication. As Global governess UN must act locally
which enable UN for getting proper information on time from the various
social developing agency, NGO’s, Voluntary and Civil society
organization. The fence (National Govt.) in between UN and local /national NGO’s should be removed. Our
appeal to the Secretary General to facilitate ICT facilities to the
Local NGO’s of the developing countries under UN supervision.
