PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
The
school building is very old (approximately100 years) and has a great
history. It used to be a hospital and a convent before it became an
elementary school.
The building is interesting, but the people
are the ones who make this school so special. The region that we live
in is very famous for its colorful national structure.
The most important thing is that at school, we are all treated equally, no matter what our origin, religion or beliefs are.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
None reported.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
Students
of different nationalities can take classes in their own language; they
can complete their entire education in their own language. There are
also religious education classes, which are of course optional.
My
school is taking care that their students have a healthy life style;
therefore, they organize different seminars on this matter. All these
activities help us to think of our school as of our second home, a
place where we belong.
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
I
think that our school should make an example to other schools, because
when you come to work or study here you can feel love - the noblest
feeling of all, which guides us on our way from childhood to maturity,
and gives us the most memorable moments that we will treasure forever.
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
The school is part of the Life-Link network.
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
There
is a new program that is under way - the program of socialization and
integration of Gypsy children in our school. Enabling these children to
get proper education is very human, and our school's policy is that
everyone deserves a chance. I think that people at our school are very
open minded and progressive, there are also plans to create
a multimedia classroom; simply, they're doing everything they can to
make this school become more developed.
