PROGRESS: Has your organization seen
progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of
action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade? |
Tolerance
and understanding have been promoted especially through EC- programmes
and training measures targeting at children and different professional
groups. Civil society has played a major role to create understanding
within local communities.
|
OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?
|
Public and political debate in Austria, foremost during election campaigns,
has created a somewhat problematic opinion on marginalized groups. Some
of the largest migrant groups and especially asylum seekers are,
generally speaking, often discriminated.
|
ACTIONS: What actions have been
undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?
|
* Founding of or association Q -Qualified Migration Knowledge Network in March 2005. * Active participation within the scientific and civil society community.
|
ADVICE: What advice would you like to
give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a
culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade? |
More
emphasis shall be put on the integration of marginalized groups. It is
essential that human rights are applicable for everyone.
|
PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and
networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the
global movement for a culture of peace? |
We
are a network communicating constantly with individual experts from
different backgrounds and other NGOs. Our partners are Fundacija GEA
2000 (Slovenia), Project on Ethnic Relations (Bulgaria) and The Center
for Urban and Regional Studies, CURS (Romania).
|
PLANS: What new engagements are
planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and
nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)? |
* We want to provide sound information on migration related issues with an interdisciplinary team. *
A joint conference (with our partners from Slovenia, Bulgaria and
Romania) is foreseen for 2006 on "Education Matters: Asylum- Seekers in
South East- Europe". * Continue and broaden interdisciplinary dialogue. * Provide expertise in the field of migration, asylum and integration.
