PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

The first half of the decade in Sweden is a lot about violence. Violence
against women, violence between cultural groups. Comparing to other areas
around the world, Sweden is a peaceful and nonviolence area but things can
always become better in an area where we have democratic instruments and
an independent lawsystem.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

1.The attitudes among the people against women, against people from other
countries than the Nordic.
2. The government's lack of visions to act in order of equality and
nonacceptance for violence in the society.

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

The Center Party Youth of Sweden do not have had an own
nonviolence-campain during these years. Our aim is always to talk about
human rights and the importance of a multicultural society during our
campains. We celebrate World Aids Day and talk a lot about the UN:s
importance to create a peaceful world. Some of our regional grups have had
nonviolence courses and have had  local campaigns in peace without
weapons. We have also had a national course in international issues.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

Concentrate on one question. It is all about a chain-reaction. If
concentrating on peace, we can solve the problem with poverty. If we solve
the problem with the non-democratic states, we solve the problem with the
human rights. If we solve the problem with the non-democratic states we
will live in a peaceful world. Democratic states do not  start war.

Try to work with the nondemocratic states to create a more democratic
world.

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

The Center Party Youth  is a member in the Nordic Center Party Youth, The
LYMEC and the IFLRY. Liberal youth organizations. We are also a member in
national organizations.

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)?

Peace is all about cooperation and understanding. The CUF works with
international solidarity-projects in eg SouthAfrica, Namibia, Belarus, The
Balkancountries. These projects will continue during the last half of this
decade.

Sustainable Development

The Center Party Youth  is a liberal youth organization who fights for
freedom for the individuals. But if we do not have a world to live in, a
sustainable environmental world, we do not have to fight for freedom.
That's why we choose Sustainable development as our first priority and
human rights as our second. The others are included in Human Rights.
