PROGRESS: Has your organization seen progress toward a culture of peace and nonviolence in your domain of action and in your constituency during the first half of the Decade?

Our organization, working in 37 countries, has seen minimal progress in the first half of the decade.  We have, however, seen remarkable progress within our own education, and on a grassroots level.  The growing awareness of a culture of peace and nonviolence within and without the organization has indeed progressed.  We have seen a growing awareness at UN meetings, and amongst our membership especially.

OBSTACLES: What are the most important obstacles that have prevented progress?

Funding is one obstacle that has prevented us from completing some specific projects on furthering the decade.

ACTIONS: What actions have been undertaken by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the first half of the Decade?

We have taken numerous actions to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence, including:
- holding events around the world on 21 September
- promoting the culture of peace through publications, web sites, and information sharing.
- working with other organizations to develop curricula on a culture of peace
- promoting disarmament education among our national sections
- promoting democratization of the UN as a way to further the culture of peace
- organizing events around the globe on peace issues, on women's rights, in order to examine the root causes of war and eliminate them.

ADVICE: What advice would you like to give to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence during the second half of the Decade?

PARTNERSHIPS: What partnerships and networks does your organization participate in, thus strengthening the global movement for a culture of peace?

PLANS: What new engagements are planned by your organization to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence in the second half of the Decade (2005-2010)?
